Show me the Carrots!

Entrepreneurs are unique.  They create products that will change the world.  They have passion that flies in the face of logic.  They continue to march forward when everyone else has fallen to the wayside.  They believe in a dream that they expect will one day be reality.

But, with all of their passion, belief, determination, and creativity, they have a difficult time with one vital element.  Entrepreneurs need to learn that there is a season to drive and push against all odds, but there is also a season to pause and let the company grow.  If you have built a company and hired good people, take a few minutes and watch the company move forward.  It will amaze you!

My grampy was a farmer in northern Maine.  If you have ever had carrots straight out of the ground – dirt and all – they are outstandingly delicious!  As a young boy, eager to eat a new carrot,  I would go out and check to see if any of the carrots were ready to eat.  One day as I yanked a carrot out of the ground my grampy saw me and said, “What in thunderin’ tarnation are you doing?”  Obviously, I said that I wanted to eat a carrot.  Then he said something I have never forgotten.  He said, “If you keep pulling out the carrot every 5 minutes, it will never grow!  Leave it in the ground and let it grow!”  Knowing him, I am sure he may have said other “words”, but I must blocked those out of my memory.

However, the message is clear, there is a time push hard and there is a time to let your business grow.   Learn the difference.
