Do We Impose Borders on Innovation?
The last time (i.e. yesterday) I heard someone talk about their vision and dream, I was again struck by the simple fact that innovation has no boundaries. It doesn’t matter where you live in the world or how much money you have or your educational background. Innovation and creation often starts deep within a person and erupts with a passion that may not be contained in a traditional logic or reason.
I met a young man yesterday from South Africa. His passion for his business in a shanty town near Cape Town is inspiring. While I don’t fully relate to the many factors that drive him, I can clearly see his passion. He concisely stated what he wants to do and how he hopes to get there. Although he did not talk about this as an “elevator pitch” which US entrepreneurs and investors preach every day, he knows what he wants and can easily tell his story.
The world we live in today is changing. And it is being changed by the energies and innovations that spring from the simplest events. As you think about your dreams and passions don’t let the traditional walls stop you from trying to find a way to reach out and make your dream a reality.
Success is not always being a multi-millionaire. Success is more often achieved when your dream impacts one person.
